Who is baby Jung-in, and why are Koreans apologizing?

In 2019, a young couple adopted a 7-month-old baby girl named Jung-in. They even appeared on a TV show, looking like a poster family for adoption. But behind closed doors, Jung-in’s life was an absolute nightmare filled with physical abuse and neglect. In less than a year after being adopted, the baby died due to damage to her organs. Jung-in’s story has sparked wide public outrage in Korea, and both civilians and celebrities (including BTS’ Jimin) have joined the #SorryJungin campaign to spread awareness of child abuse.
